Joseph Haydn (1732-1809) is one of the greatest music innovators. Mozart and Beethoven looked upon him very much as an inspiration, but in the concert halls he seemed to overshadow the benefits of his younger contemporaries too often.

The world needs to appreciate it much more: it is still the most underrated of all great composers.

Talking to some of Haydn’s greatest music exhibitors, this film restores balance and sheds light on the master and his work. Phil Grabsky hopes Haydn will reach a wider audience that will be amazed, amused and fascinated by Haydn’s humor, humanity and insatiable creativity.

Haydn’s life extends from the end of the Baroque period to Napoleon’s attack on Vienna and is survived by his younger friend Mozart. He was one of the most productive composers and created over 100 symphonies, 64 quartets, 16 existing operas, 51 piano sonatas and oratoriosCreation and Seasons.

His,perhaps, a gentle, calm temperament embraced the challenges and trials of life with informal humor and irony. Although he has blessed the encouraging philanthropist who runs his own orchestra and opera company on the Estherhazi estate for about 30 years, he has succumbed to the usual fabrications of the aristocratic household and the folly of the art world. These years proved to be extremely productive and inspired Haydn to write numerous works to please his patron and his excellent guests with witty theater nights, jokes and casual jokes.

Phil Grabsky follows the same format to present the composer’s biography and music chronologically. Through intimate and insightful interviews with experts and in-depth excerpts from personal memories, Haydn’s audience gains a great understanding not only of Haydn’s music, but also of his appreciation for the artist himself.
